Password Protection<\/span><\/h2>\n

Open Publisher allows you to fully encrypt any document with a password using the industry-standard AES-GCM<\/strong> encryption algorithm, implemented natively in the browser via the Web Crypto API. Once protected, the file saves as an encrypted binary blob rather than a readable .html<\/span> or .opub<\/span> structure – the content is completely unreadable to anyone who does not have the correct password.<\/p>\n

How to Protect a Document<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Go to File > Protect Document<\/strong>, or click the Protect Document<\/strong> button in the ribbon.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Enter a password and confirm it in the dialog.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Click Protect<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Once protected, a Protected<\/strong> badge appears in the top-right area of the canvas, giving you immediate visual confirmation that the active document is secured.<\/p>\n

      Open the .opub<\/span> file as normal.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      A decryption prompt immediately appears.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Enter the correct password. If it matches, the document decrypts and loads instantly.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      If the password is incorrect, the document remains locked.

      There is no password recovery mechanism.<\/strong> If you lose or forget the password, the document cannot be recovered under any circumstances.
