Windows<\/span><\/h3>\n

Open Publisher on Windows ships in two forms to suit different preferences and environments:<\/p>\n

    Standard<\/b> Installer<\/b> (.exe):<\/b> Run the installer to have Open Publisher set up automatically. It creates Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts, and registers the .opub<\/span><\/span> file<\/span> extension<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> Windows<\/span> registry<\/span> so<\/span> that<\/span> double-clicking<\/span> any<\/span> .opub<\/span><\/span> file<\/span> will<\/span> instantly<\/span> launch<\/span> the<\/span> app<\/span> and<\/span> load<\/span> your<\/span> document.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Portable<\/b> Version<\/b> (.exe):<\/b> If you prefer not to install anything, the self-contained portable .exe<\/span><\/span> runs<\/span> completely<\/span> in<\/span> isolation<\/span> \u2014<\/span> no<\/span> registry<\/span> modifications,<\/span> no<\/span> administrator<\/span> privileges<\/span> required.<\/span> Simply<\/span> drop<\/span> it<\/span> in<\/span> any<\/span> folder<\/span> and<\/span> run<\/span> it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      On macOS, Open Publisher integrates deeply with the operating system’s native conventions:<\/p>\n

        A fully native macOS<\/b> menu<\/b> bar<\/b> maps all of the app’s tools to the top of your screen, categorised by ribbon tab (File, Home, Insert, Page Design, Review, View, Picture).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        The app correctly identifies itself as “Open Publisher” in the menu bar, Dock, and system UI.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        A native warning modal prevents you from accidentally closing the app with unsaved changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          Drag and drop the Open Publisher icon into your Applications folder.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          Linux<\/span><\/h3>\n

          Open Publisher is packaged for Linux in three formats to accommodate different distributions and preferences:<\/p>\n

              Debian\/Ubuntu:<\/b> Download the <\/span>.deb<\/span><\/span> file and install via your graphical software center, or use your package manager in the terminal.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

              Fedora\/Suse\/RHEL:<\/b> Download the <\/span>.rpm<\/span><\/span> file and double-click to install, or run it through your terminal package manager.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

              Portable AppImage:<\/b> Download the <\/span>.AppImage<\/span><\/span> file. Right-click the file, select Properties, and check the box to “Allow executing file as program”. Double-click to run instantly.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              The application installs into the \/opt\/<\/span><\/span><\/span> directory<\/span> and<\/span> registers<\/span> application\/x-openpublisher<\/span><\/span><\/span> MIME<\/span> types<\/span> so<\/span> that<\/span> file<\/span> associations<\/span> work<\/span> correctly<\/span> out<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> box.<\/span> An<\/span> automation<\/span> script<\/span> runs<\/span> at<\/span> the<\/span> end<\/span> of<\/span> installation<\/span> to<\/span> refresh<\/span> your<\/span> system’s<\/span> icon<\/span> cache<\/span> and<\/span> MIME<\/span> database.<\/span><\/p>\n
